Hello!
I have the following problem: I edit the template --> Save it --> and Rebuild it. Immediately after this sequence, the blog stops working or, exactly speaking, it stops updating the page that uses the Template that I edited. For example, if I edit the "Main Index", then my "index.html" file will not post any new entries while other pages will. When I look at the Template configuration section of the blog management panel, I see that the "+" under "Built w/Indexes" is now replaced with the "-". I presume now that the pages corresponding to the edited template are not being rebuild dynamically anymore. How do I fix this? Thanks in advance! -------------------- Silicon arrow

Are you using Yahoo! hosting? If so, this bug was identified and fixed prior to the Yahoo launch, but a code freeze had to be enforced at a certain point prior to launch, so that fix was not there when that freeze was enforced. We're working with them on a timetable for when they plan to implement the updated code, but ultimately, it is under their control as to when that will happen.
On behalf of both Six Apart and Yahoo, I'd like to apologize for the frustration you've experienced due to this issue, and assure you that we are working with Yahoo to get the updates implemented as soon as possible. -------------------- |

As a potential resolution for issue where the Main Index doesn't rebuild automatically, please download this file:
http://www.sixapart.com/movabletype/kb/downloads/YahooSB.pl And upload it, in ASCII mode, to MT_DIR/plugins/_YahooSB/ (replacing MT_DIR with the actual name of your Movable Type installation folder). If you now go to edit the Main Index template from the Templates listing, do you then see a 'Build Options' box, with an option to check "Rebuild this template automatically when rebuilding index templates"? If so, can you please check that box and then Save and Rebuild? Does your Main Index template then rebuild when you create new entries? Please be advised that this code we're having you try has not been fully tested by our Quality Assurance team. It is the latest development code and should not be considered anything more than that. We hope it will fix the problem we're helping you with, but cannot say with certainty that it might not cause other issues to occur. Please be advised that the code Lisa posted above has not been fully tested. It is the latest development code and should not be considered anything more than that. We feel confident that it fixes the bugs we know about but cannot say with certainty yet that it doesn't cause others.

Thanks for your work to fix this. Sooner is definitely better for me. This is causing daily problems for multiple clients. I was hoping to get FEWER support calls by putting folks on the Yahoo MT installation. :-)

Is it safe for production servers? I just spent an hour doing a 15 minute job because I kept having to go into myphpadmin to manually set the "rebuild me" fields from 0 to 1 every time I wanted to test something. Please tell me this fix (or some other solution) is good to go. I'd like to have some fun this weekend, but clients are getting restless and I may need to take them off the Yahoo server instead. I hate to sound cranky. The problem is I know how great Movable Type is when it's working and this is definitely not working. |

OK, it worked for now. Thanks! Could you please keep me (and others) updated on the results of QA testing? Thanks in advance!

Here's how lost I am, I can't download the file above. Unless I am supposed to see the code, in which case, again, I have to clue what I am doing. On the positive side, I found a dollar in the couch.....so its not all bad.

Copy this code (this is how I did it) into the text file and save it with the name YahooSB.pl. Then upload it, in ASCII mode, to MT_DIR/plugins/_YahooSB/ on the server. To check if it is in ASCII (or text) mode after upload - view the YahooSB.pl file on the server (in the MT_DIR/plugins/_YahooSB/) and it you see the text then you are fine... good luck! -------------------- Silicon arrow

pierard - thank you for the giggle!
If you right click and save that file to your computer, you can upload it to your web server. -------------------- |

Hi Lisa,
I am new to MT and tried this new main index Rebuild file and...It worked....Great job! Thanks But I have a previous issue that started yesterday, also about 2 weeks ago I signed up with Yahoo hosting through MT's website and every thing was going ok. Until a day or 2 ago when i added a new entry it would post it to the main index but not to an archived post or file...no file at all showing up in any folders or directories...and those previous post that I posted have a 404 error in the site archive links with said files also having an .static extension after the .html (ex. samplepost.html.static ) I called yahoo tech and was given an email for yahoo php support to which I emailed them the issue....I also see on the board that another member with yahoo has the same extension issue. any response or info would be greatly appreciated |
