Is there a way to import a large posts and comments file (Movable Type format) to a recently installed MT 4.01 blog and database via command line, without having to deal with those silly browser (or web server, or whatever) timeouts?

I just can't have my posts and comments back, it gets stucked in the middle. And splitting the file is as just silly as the timeouts, though it may work.

Thanks in advance.

I've had much better luck placing the file in the import/ folder, rather than using the Browse button within MT, if it helps. Also, I typically do just split a file up if it times out... though I don't know how big yours is to say it's a "silly" idea.

For a bigger install, I've imported to a local install of MT, where I won't have to worry about timeouts.

I've tried that, danwolfgang. Unfortunately, no difference. Since setting up a server will require more work here for me than splitting the file, I think I don't have many choices. Although it's over 7 years of blogging...

Thanks!

If the thought of now splitting the import file up into smaller chunks is daunting (and you exported from a Movable Type installation that is still working), you might try creating multiple export files, using one of the methods described here. The end result is the same, of course. wink.gif
