I've got WordPress 2.3.3, and am trying to import into MT 4.1.

When I do so, the import tool thinks for about 30 seconds, then I see the following:

Importing entries into blog
Importing entries as user 'administrator'

....and then it hangs. The progress indicator continues to move, but nothing else happens. I've let this work for about 10 minutes before giving up. The import file is only about 500K, so shouldn't take long at all.

Things I've tried:
- Verified that all users from imported blog and MT are unique.
- Changed the format of the import XML file (used Textpad to convert it to UTF-8, Unix format).

My web host is a unix server. The PC I'm working on is Windows Vista with Internet Explorer 7.

Can anyone help assist? I was considering moving all my personal and customer blogs over to MT from WP, but if I can't even get the import function working in this initial test, then I'm stuck with WP by default.
