My new hosting company "transferred" my blog from yahoo to the new hosting site. Somewhere in the process, the database was NOT transferred over and the yahoo account is now closed. Does Moveable Type have a backup of the database?

I have had much problems from the moveable type product and I am considering changing to Wordpress if I cant get this resolved.

If you did not ask it to back up then no, MT will not have backed up your database.

However if you were publishing statically and have the old pages then they can be used to repopulate the database, how easy depends on how customised your pages were and how clean the html. The pages can be used to generate an import file.

I do have the files, but not sure what i am looking at.

That look like it is just the application, not the content.
