Wouldn't it be cool if MT (or TypePad) would automatically copy any pages you linked to, to a local archive? And then if the URL returned a 404 error, the archived page would be displayed?
Just a thought. -Vik The Big Picture -------------------- |

That's a good idea, but until then, you might be able to use the MTCache Plugin.

Nope, I don't link outside sources enough to use it- plus I don't want to use the server space, but if you try it out, let me know how it works.

QUOTE (Vik @ Jul 19 2003, 08:34 PM) Wouldn't it be cool if MT (or TypePad) would automatically copy any pages you linked to, to a local archive? And then if the URL returned a 404 error, the archived page would be displayed? A 404 error is nothing to be ashamed for, it's part of life and death on the world wide web. Caching and redisplaying other peoples pages brings up a host of copyright issues. I, for one, would not care for someone to be caching my content (and letting it go stale on their server). Beside, caching a page would not be enough for it to always display properly, you'd also have to cache the images, style sheets, script files, applets, and other stuff the page includes. Then you'd have to modify the source of the page to point to your local (cached) images, style sheets, etc., etc. -------------------- |

Good points, Stepan. Thanks for the feedback.
