is it allowed in the terms of use to customise the MT user interface?

I want to keep the MT logo and copyright and all images and all that, but for some of my more, um, clueless? authors, i want to remove bits from the add and edit entries pages.

for example, I dont want them to be able to see ALLOW PINGS or to be able to tick or untick it for a post they write, also, I want to remove the MORE and EXCERPT areas also, so that my subbies cant add longer entries using the MORE function, and cannot send notification emails at all. And I dont wont them to be able to use "Customize the display of this page." which is at the bottom of the add entry/edit entry thing.

Is it possible to hide these options from authors? Cos I couldnt find an option.

If it is not possible, am I allowed to customise the interface to remove them?

If yes, tips on where to start would be great - eg which tmpl files should I be looking at?

Thanks heaps in advance

MT does allow the main user to give it's authors alot or a little freedom depending on what's needed e.g. which blogs they are allowed to access, if they can edit posts, edit other authors posts, upload files, etc. You can also post instructions for them which will appear everytime they log into MT. From your note it appears that you would like more access than the current interface offers. If it's not possible why not add this to the Suggest a feature section? hopefully these issues will be covered in future releases.

What I did with my Mother when she was learning to use MT was allow her the most basic of options and when she was comfortable using them I added a feature every now and again and I took regular backups.

I havent delved into the code and that's how far my knowledge goes. I hope this has been on some help to you.  :D

The files that you would edit would be /tmpl/cms/edit_entry.tmpl - that's the new/edit entry screen.

But remember, anytime you upgrade, you'll have to perform your changes on the new versions of the files!

Please helpppp

I have a home page that called index.htm and the layout if like a newspaper.  That file is sat in the public folder.

I want to know how on earth do I seamlessly get MT integrated in that page and subseuent pages???

I just need to know if its possible?  And how I'd go about it?

Are there certain files I would have to edit in CGI-BIN to integrate the layout I need?

Argghh! ?

Yes, you can put MT content into any type of page.  You can either use includes (PHP or SSI) to pull the content into pages that are already exisiting, or you can use the Template section within MT to customize your existing layout with the MT codes.

Post back if you have any more specific questions smile.gif
