Hey everyone - I have been using MT without a problem and everything installed correctly however the search feature has stopped working for some reason.
The only thing I can think it may be is I added META tags to the index page and a robots.txt file to the root of my web directory for search engine visibility. Could/would this affect the MT search feature?

It shouldn't, no. What is not working about the search engine?

I get an error when someone tries to search:
CODE
"Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request."
Unfortunately I do not have access to my website error logs, which would would make this a lot easier. It does however log the search attempt in the activity log within MT.

Are the permissions on mt-search.cgi still set to 755?

i have the same problem.
i thought maybe one of the files was corrupted so i upgraded from 2.5 to 2.51 but that didn't fix the problem.

All of my files are set to 755 and I tried setting them to 777 which didn't help. I also re-uploaded all of the files again which didn't help either.
Search still isn't working, not sure what the problem is. It just stopped working.

i hope by "all your files" you meant "all your cg files". also, try some other cgi files to see if they work?
jaystead: if the site in ur profile is what we're talking about, cgis definitely work on it.. so you'll have to give the search cgi special attention for errors in the code or proper chmoding.
i'm not sure but i read somewhere that WSFTP does not chmod properly... i'm not sure tho... if u're using that as ur ftp program search for it in the forum

Yes, I ment all of my cgi files were set to 755 or 777. I can log into the admin interface and people can post comments to my entries. So for some reason just the search aspect of MT has stopped working.
I don't use WS_FTP I use BulletProof and checked the permissions when I telnet'ed into my site, which were set alright.
your form submits to the search form with "get", i think it should be "post"... i dont think that's related to anything that happening tho...
CODE
<form method="get" action="http://www.stead.ca/mt/mt-search.cgi">
You should also check your configuration file, i remember reading somewhere about the search action being changed from "get" to "post" when the search addon was included in MT2.5 [
check changelog]. If you've upgraded recently but forgot to add the search configuration functions to mt.cfg, this could be it.

The examples in the manual all use "get", and my search also uses it and works fine.
And not having any config options set in mt.cfg shouldn't affect anything, they're only meant to override MT's built-in defaults. You can leave them all out of mt.cfg if you want.

It just occurred to me. I don't put titles on my entries, would this affect the search at all?
no that wouldnt be a problem either.
i dunno what steps you're taken to try to fix this. but maybe you should try deleteting mt-search.cgi as well as both default templates and reuploading.

I get exactly the same problem and my server log tells me:
CODE
[Tue Feb 11 16:00:58 2003] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] malformed header from script. Bad header=Use of uninitialized value at : /usr/cgiwrap/cgiwrap
I wonder if this is a new, special feature of Cobalt RaQs?

Did anyone ever get a fix to this problem? I can't get mt-search.cgi to execute at all (same 500 error) but it's the only cgi that doesn't work. And yes, gone through the checklist of checking permissions, making sure the cgi was uploaded via ASCII, perl is correct, etc.
Only commonality here is the Cobalt RaQs.
If anyone can post their history or shed some light on a fix, that would be great (there was also a post on this by guillebe? but he didn't post an answer either).

I thought I would dig this up again to see if anyone had a fix for this yet. I have ensured that everything above has been performed and still no luck.
I too am on a Cobalt RaQ and this is the only problem I have had so far.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe this can shed some light on the Cobalt Raq issues:
When installing MT 2.63, I had some problems when activating File::Spec
Strange things happened to the other modules... the installation wizzard said that some other modules were not installed (allthough they were).
So I deactivated the File::Spec module and everything worked except the search (and probably the XML-RPC thing).
So now I reactivated the File::Spec module.
When I perform a search than this is what I get:
"Got an error: Can't continue after import errors at /usr/lib/perl5/5.00503/File/Spec/Unix.pm line 11 BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /home/sites/site14/web/mt/lib/MT/App/Search.pm line 14."
SO. Any ideas. ???
