I've been looking at the xmlrpc metaWeblog and blogger api, as well as considering just going in and messing with the tables independent of anything Movable Type might have to say about it. I'm trying to insert new entries from a perl script from the same host where the MT instance + db reside.

Is there something like mt.postNewEntry() that I've overlooked? Would some kind soul be willing to point me in the right direction?

MT.pm, MT/Blog.pm and MT/Entry.pm should provide all the functionality you need.
