I know that a new version of MT is coming soon....Does anyone know if i'll allow the adding of extra Fields? I'm thinking ablot using theExtraFields plugin/hack, but in the documentation it states that there maybe problems if & when you try to upgrade. So I was wondering if I should go ahead & take my chances or if i should wait.

While I have no knowledge of what is planned for the next MT package,  I think you should go ahead and wait it out. That's my personal opinion. I would just save you on time and trouble.

You might want to wait until the release, if only because MTExtraFields requires some changes to be made to the MT files. If you make the changes now, you'll have to do it again when you upgrade.

This may be a silly question, but I'm assuming that this plug-in will allow me to create extra fields and values for the edit entry page, which I can then plug into a template?

For example, if I wanted to add a field for someone to enter a META description on a page? Or other, additional fields?

Indeed it does. It takes a little thought, but the documentation is excellent. It's a very versatile plugin. Just my $.02 though.
