OK, so MT is all installed and up and running. Now im just messing with it and trying to customize it a bit.... My first question, which I cant seem to stumble across an answer to, is how do I customize the "links" section??? Id like to add some of my own links there, but dont know where/what file to edit... Any help appreciated.
Thanks!

Go into Templates and look for the main index template. Then search the code until you find the links section and add your links there.

He's right about that, you have to go to the main index template and do it manually. I'm sure you were thinking the same thing I did...why doesn't MT have an interface for posting links like it does for posting blog entries? Oh well... ???

I believe almuhajabah is a she, not a he.
Girl power!!! :)

Oops!
My apologies to her. I guess I should just refer to people by their handle. It's hard to tell gender in an online world.

I guess I left no doubt as to my gender when choosing my user name. Heh.

Hehe! I had it in my head you were a man, al! Must be since I call you al for short. o_0
I'm female also, but I get called HE a lot here, bmk isn't much help. :) I think male is assumed by default, at least that's how I usually think when I'm reading. Sad! :p

Hehe. I think I've made the comment here before that we're all women, because women are so much better at reading instructions!

Yeah, I guess it does look like my name is "Al" or something, lol. Actualy "al" is the Arabic word for "the"; my screen name is an Arabic word meaning "the woman who wears Islamic dress". I actually got a private message from somebody at these forums asking what the screen name meant and they were also surprised to find out I'm female.

I've decided to balance the scales by resolving to always refer to anyone who posts to the forum with a gender-neutral nickname as "she". :)

Is this a thread about "Creating Links" or discussing genders of people posting.
yes, I am a guy.
Now I know, how girlie and bmk got 5k+ posts. yet another proof for "women discuss nothing except rubbish"

I abstracted my list of links into a Template Module, included with an
<MTInclude module="..."> statement. That way, the same list of links can appear in my Monthly Archives as well.
I suppose one could go a bit further and do it all with Server-Side Includes, but I prefer to serve up static pages wherever possible to maximize performance. (My
blog is hosted on the machine on my desktop. Sometimes I actually need it to do real work.)
jayant : oh, haha. you *are* kidding, I hope. :) We'll let the mods decide if it's too off topic. (joke) :)
yes, from now on... I'm going to use 'she' as my default if I'm not sure. :p
almuhajabah: thanks for the story behind your name, silly me because it even means "woman"! And I should have known that anybody so helpful and patient and smart was female! heh, heh.
I wish I could repick my name. I wasn't feeling particularly creative that day I guess.

I think it's funny that jayant felt the need to post a disclaimer.
Like we're all gonna go in a corner and cry or something.

Some people are sensitive. I posted that for those ppl only

If they're that sensitive, a disclaimer isn't going to make a lick of difference to them.
It's like throwing a rock at someone and saying, "By the way, if that rock hurts when it hits you, I'm sorry." You know it's going to hurt when you throw it, so why do it at all?

Let me put it this way:
I put the disclaimer there just to say that it is not a *racist* remark.

Ladies, I have no problem whatsoever with you discussing whatever you feel the need to. Regardless, I also am interested if you all know what the dealy is with links not being updatable through the interface?
Seems to be the only thing thats wh its so odd to me.
peace.

You have to edit the template to add the HTML for your links in the section where the example "Add your links here" is located.

Thanks, I knew that though, I was just wondering why it wasn't built into the interface. (links)

Bercause the templates are fully customizible -- mine doesn't even have that section (or have much in common with the default templates)
