I've been scouring the support docs and support forums for hours but I can not figure out to use this feature of MT.

I want to cut very long posts to a shorter length on my index page with the word "More...," which leads to the individual archive page. I've seen this done before on other pages, but I simply can NOT figure out how to make this happen. This feature does not seem to be documented at all.

Please, someone, give me a clue!

What you need to do is to go into MT and bring up the post to be edited. Cut and paste the portion that you want to be the "more" part into the Extended Entry field so that it is no longer in the Entry Body field.

In your templates, use the MTEntryIfExtended tags to display the "more" link only if there actually is an extended entry.

Then on your archive page where you want the full entry to show up, use the MTEntryIfExtended tags again and put <$MTEntryMore$> inside of them. This tag will display the content that is in the Extended Entry field.

Ack! That was it! I had not disabled the "extended" window in entry edit mode and didn't realize I was missing it.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Don't forget that you can use the <$MTEntryExcerpt$> tag to handle a snippet of the post that you want to show up in front of the "More..." bit like this:

I was walking down the street one day More...
