Full Version: upgrading and moving to different directory

Hi,

I'm sorry if a question like this has been posed before, but I searched in the archives and couldn't find a similar post.

I am running v. 2.21 (with MySQL) and I want to upgrade to the new version. The thing is, I want to install it in a different directory than my old installation. The documentation doesn't really say anything about how to do this.

Background: My old MT installation was done through my "journal" subdirectory, which I eventually passcoded. After that, I started using external comments (snorcomments) on my public blog so people without passcodes to my private journal can still post comments.

Needless to say, I don't want this hassle anymore. I want to be able to use MT's commenting system, so I figured I would install it in my "blog" subdirectory.

So my question is: how is the best way to go about this? I'm not extremely good at figuring this out like some of you, so I really don't know how and where to start. I'm not even sure what questions to ask; I just need to make sure that nothing is lost, etc.

Thanks for any help you can offer. :)

I would say... first you can change your blog folder, all you need to do for that is change the paths in blog config to the right name and do a total rebuild.  This will build everything into the new folder (you can then go clean up the files from the old folder when you're ready)

Then upgrade as normal.

Or I suppose you could do it the other way around if you like.  :)
