Full Version: No error message, but ping Weblogs.com not working

1. Is your site in frames, by any chance?

2. and 3. Make sure that you uploaded all of the images in the images/ directory in the distribution, in binary mode, and to the correct directory.
btrott
The images need to go into a directory outside of your cgi-bin. If you had 1.4 installed, you should put the 2.0 images in the same directory where you had the 1.4 images.

I asked about the frames because that was happening to another user--the ping was checked, she wasn't getting an error message, but she wasn't showing up on weblogs.com unless she did the ping manually. If you try to do the ping manually, does it work?

Change your StaticWebPath to this:

CODE
StaticWebPath /mt/

Well, it was kind of a guess... what is the URL corresponding to the path /nfs/WWW_pages/marina/mt/images/, where you placed the images?
Marina
WOW! It looks SO MUCH BETTER! Those graphics are gorgeous. And clearly it is now using a style sheet that it was not using before. Your designs are soooo cooool.

One million thanks, effendi! I bow before you in gratitude. Even the cats are happy.

What about the ping problem? Should I try a manual ping, and if so, how? Go to DOS and type ping ____ (what)?
RoyalTS
oops, my problem seems to have disappeared all by itself. Sorry 'bout that!

I recently threw out my MT 1.4 installation and installed 2.0 from scratch.

Everything seems to be working fine, though there are some weirdnesses.

1.  Although I do not get an error message, when I post a new entry, the Weblogs ping apparently is not working, as my site doesn't show up there when I update. I do have the proper box checked in the blog configuration area.

2.  The "second category" option does not really show up when I go to edit an entry. In Netscape 6, it is entirely missing. In IE 6, there is a sort of indentation where it is supposed to be (along with several smaller ones that are, apparently, for formatting text). If I click on the indentation, I get a pop-up that allows me to select a sxecond category.

3.  If there are supposed to be images in the blog management area, they aren't there. Instead, I see the classic little white box with a red X in it.

1. No, no frames. They pose a serious accessibility issue, and I aim to make my site as accessible as possible.

2. I uploaded the images in binary, but not to the CGI directory. Instead, they are in my Web pages directory. But I kind of wondered about that. Should I upload them to the CGI directory (in a proper /images/ dir, in the  proper relation to the other files)?

The ping was working in 1.4. I haven't tried a manual ping.

The images are in the same place as 1.4, but they never showed up in 1.4 either, so there is probably some simple configuration thing I haven't set correctly. Is there somewhere to set a path pointing to where the images are, or is there a location they should be in (aside from, of course, the /images/ dir)? In other words, where can I place the /images/ dir so MT can find it?

For that matter, I can never get permission to view the docs online, but since I have them on my desktop, I ignore the online version.

Here is what my Static Path says:

CODE
StaticWebPath /home/WWW_pages/marina/mt/

And here is where the images are located:

CODE
/nfs/WWW_pages/marina/mt/images/

The /docs/ dir is parallel with /images/.

As far as I know, /nfs/ and /home/ are equivalent. The permissions on the /mt/ and /images/ directories are 755. Does this help?

Marina (still in love with MT)

That didn't seem to help. Still the little red x in each place where a graphic image is suposed to be.

Okay, then put this in mt.cfg:

CODE
StaticWebPath /marina/mt/

I seem to have the same ping-problem. It doesn't give me an error message but still the pings don't work.

It worked fine with all the beta versions so I have no idea why the final isn't working. Does it by any chance have anything to do with the XML-stuff you were working on?
btrott
On the weblogs.com site, there is a link to a form where you can do an XML-RPC ping manually. Try entering your URL and seeing if it works.
