We will be changing over to new forum software tonight (Sunday, April 20) at 11:00pm Pacific time. The switch should take 2-3 hours (hopefully). During this time, the support forums will be taken down, so that the data can be converted. We will post more details about the new forum software when the switch is complete.
Update: The switch to the new forum software is complete. The new software is called
Invision Power Board, and it has a very similar feature set and interface to the software we were using previously (ikonBoard). The new software is also faster and more actively maintained.
Invision Power Board was able to import all of the users, posts, and threads from the ikonBoard database, and it maintained the post IDs in the conversion process. We have put in place a simple redirection script so that old links to posts still work as is.
Those with HTML in their signature files can go to the "My Controls" section of the forum to edit the code. This should fix the plain text display of signatures.
Please report any problems you find in the software in replies to this thread.

Looks like the changeover went smoothly! I shed a tear when my subscriptions (topic tracking) got lost though, the cost of progress, eh?
I see that Avatar options are now enabled, an oversight? If not, is there the possibility of submitting (or uploading) our own rather than using the rather short list of Avatars that came with Invision?

Yes, I'm afraid avatars being left on were an oversight--or rather, an annoying issue with the software (we definitely turned them off, but they were still showing up in the profile area). I think they're gone completely now...
Sorry about the subscriptions being lost... I guess that wasn't one of the tables that was saved in the conversion process. The subscription setup in Invision is actually a lot nicer than in ikonBoard, though, so hopefully that makes up for it somewhat.

Sure, not a big deal regarding subscriptions. Plus I'm all for Avatars being off: this forum is made better by reducing disctractions, keeping it about the information shared and the lack of eye-candy...which leads me to:
The stock buttons for the new board don't exactly fit in with the overall look of the MT site, is there a move afoot to replace them?
I know you just got this board up and running and need to smooth out any unforseen bumps in the road, but my suggestion would be to tap into the creative power you have with the community using the board and accept submissions for new button designs (this has been succesful for another board I frequent and takes some of the workload off the board Admins).

Sweet! I love Invision Power Board over Ikonboard so this is a positive change in my mind.

I'd just like to add that my super slow dial-up connection LOVES this board! And the tracking is wonderful! Though I do miss my confused smiley!

By the way, now that there is this weird synchronicity thing going on, in my switching from PHPNuke/phpBB to MT/IPB, who's stepping up to the plate with some consolidated styles?
Huh? Huh?

This is a God Send for me, saince Invision is the board setup I am moving to on my own site. So one question... will there be any forum/content manager plugins for Invision in the near future? Like being able to have the MT "comments" post to a new thread on a specified Invision board, instead of the MT built in comment system?

This is a big improvement! Thank you.
One minor quibble: Is it possible to configure the software so it allows HTML entities within posts? For instance, I just noticed that all the em dashes () appear to be missing from all the old posts, and I can't seem to insert one now...

And I'm using this screen name because, regardless of which browser and how many times I try to reset the password on my old account, none take. I get the email, I verify, and I use the provided password: no go. Every time.:-( "iacas" being my first account...

I had some trouble with my login too, it kept telling me that I was using the wrong password, and I KNOW I wasn't, heh. I changed my password and now it's better (I don't know if that's related or not though) but it still doesn't remember me ever. Seems I only have the trouble on with this windows/ie6 machine. So, hmmm.

On other forums, manually deleting all cookies set by the forum (not using the "delete all cookies set by this board" link but using your browser prefs to do it) will cure those ills. Perhaps it would work here as well.

I am thinking of switching my board from phpBB to IPB... Is there a valid reason to do so?
I see the Super Admin choosing IPB, there must be must strong reasons behind that decision...
What gives?

I had an ID setup prior the board being changed over and I couldn't remember my password after the new board went live, so I tried to go through the password reset process. The activation seems to work, but when entering the id/password after that, it says the password is wrong.
My previous id is sparki. Im using this id to post (sparkii).
Is there any way to fix my previous ID?
and this is sad on my part. I now cannot remember the password for this ID. I am still logged in via the cookies, so I tried to change my password, but it wants the old one. I thought I knew it, but apparently I was wrong.
Is this the correct place to post a request for help like this? if not, would someone let me know who to contact? I'd hate to create sparkiii!
I am using Safari and I am afraid there still may be cookie bugs with Safari, so I am kinda nervous I might loose my access with this id.
thanks,

Try deleting ALL cookies set by this board manually (via Safari preferences>Security>Show Cookies) and the re-log-in with your old username.

Ok.. I have the sparkii ID working and I am able to reset a forgotton password just fine using that ID. I can log out and back in and the whole validation process worked fine.
I cannot however get sparki (with one 'i') logged in. I have gone through the validation process a number of times. I guess the bottom line is, I would like to use the sparki ID and cannot. Is there an admin person that can delete the id and I can re-register? I am sorta fond of that ID :-)

ps. thank you for the response regarding Safari

Yes. That's what I have done. I saw some stress tests done on vB, phpBB and IPB, and IPB was the fastest consistantly, and phpBB was the slowest.
I'd recommend looking through the IPB admin control panel and seeing whether you like it. Of course, you may prefer phpBB. I don't, but then again a lot of people do.
(I'd wait for version 1.2 though if you do decide to switch. Got loads of nice new features

Suggestions for forum
Don't know if this has been stated before, but...
Can there be more options for "Search posts from..."? I mean, there's 30 days, then 365 days. Kinda big jump! How about 60? aor 90?
Just a thought...
Edited: Oh yeah, and how about a "mark all read" button? Would make it a lot easier to preview what's truly the new messages.
Cheers,
Gary

fyi, 1.2 final is out. worth upgrading to. are you having problems with your md5 passwords, as well? i upgraded from ikinboard 3.1.2a MySQL and have been having some nasty password problems, which are thankfully resolved (for now)

This problem is still there 6 months on, and my email to an admin got no response. So I just set up a new account.
