I have set up moveabletype as per the instructions and performed the checks and all the required components are installed. However when I proceed to initiate the program (mt-load.cgi) I get the following error:
QUOTE
Loading initial data into system...
An error occurred while loading data:
Connection error: Access denied for user: 'cryokin@localhost' (Using password: YES)
I have set up the cfg file with all the appropriate details given to me by my host so I can't see what the problem is. I have asked my host and all they say is that yes they have provided me with a MySQL database but I need create the tables in it - Do I need to do this to get moveabletype to work? or am I being fed a line by a host who just can't be bothered?
Please any help from people who have had similar probems resolved would be good.

I have somewhat of the same problem:
QUOTE
Loading initial data into system...
An error occurred while loading data:
Connection error: Access denied for user: 'casualr_therules@localhost' to database 'casualr_mt-weblog'
Maybe I just don't have enough database experience. Help for me and the kid below?

smonkey: do you have your password correct in db-pass? And your password should be the only thing in there. MT will create the necessary tables once it can connect to the db.
RulesOfTheLost: make sure you have the dbname right, and that your db user is assigned with full permission to that mysql db?

yes I have my password correct - i have just double checked it and it as exactly as my host gave me. What else could be wrong? My host insists it's all ok their end.

I posted the things that could be wrong, you're going to have to go over them again I guess? Check the dbname, dbpass, and username, and that the user is assigned to the database. Those are the problems 99% of the time.

So basically speaking my only problem lies with the db name db user and db password? would this error also arise if my db was on a server other than localhost or would that be a different error? Although I've used the correct case for my access details as supplied by my host are the db details case sensitive? maybe my host sent me the details with wrong capitalisation. I guess I'm just clutching at straws, I'm getting the feeling my host dislikes me asking questions so much (the are sponsoring me so I'm not even paying for it hehe)

Yes, that stuff is usually case sensitive. Make sure too that your host doesn't stick a prefix on the front (like Rules of the Lost's example above)
There *is* the DBHost line you can use in mt.cfg if your mysql server is in a different place, but every time I've had to use that, it tells me the "sock" error instead of the error you're getting.
It really seems like it's your password.

Literally just as you posted I have connected to the database, and rather scarily the only way I've been able to connect is when I don't use a password! isn't that a bit of a security problem? My host gave me a password but I can't connect using it, if I leave out the password it connects fine (via telnet as well) surely this is a bad thing? Your opinion?

Yeah, there should probably be a password on it.
You could leave it blank for now to keep working on MT, and then when they set it up for you, add that pass in db-pass.
