I think I've gone through all of the preference settings, and I still can't figure out how to display only today's blog entry on my index page. I currently have it configured to display the exerpts from the previous five days, but really just want to display the full body of my most recent entry. Is there a prefence setting for this, or do I need to change the index or template? Thanks!

You should set the "days displayed" to 1, and if you want to get rid of the excerpts, yes, you need ot edit the index template.

I'd probably use lastn="1" myself - that way, the most recent entry always appears on the page, and you don't end up with a index with no entries at all if someone posts a comment and it's been over 24 hours since you last added an entry.

Thanks for the pointers. I'm definitely not a tech person, so does anyone have suggestions on where I might find some in-depth tutorials on how to have my most recent entry fully displayed (rather than just the excerpt)?

The MT docs are pretty darned good. I'd spend some quality time reading over the "template tags" section.
Set up a test blog and experiment. This is all stuff you need to do through the templates, rather than through the preferences.
The key difference in this case is between the MTEntryExcerpt tag and the MTEntryBody tag.
