Full Version: Informational Blog Promotion Question

I'm not a big fan of blog-rings, and I see plenty of auto-updated listings. But I'm curious, I run a professional type informational blog, beepSNORT about experimental electronic music and I'm kinda at a loss as to how to promote it.

I'm aggregating visits thru my portal, NetNewMusic and I've got Syndic8 and a few other things monitoring it, but what is the general approach to professional, informational, (not diary-ish) blog promotion?

I'm not even sure how I get my blog listed on the MT front page!

Clueless and curious...

Sorry if this is the wrong forum... not sure where to put such a question and I like the MT user community!

to get your site listed on the front page of mt, you will need to dontate at least 20 dollars to mt, to get a key. Once you have that and put the key in your blog, everytime you post an entry, you will show up on the recently updated list on mt.

Some thoughts:

1. Put a link in your sig on emails and everyone else you post your name (newsgroups, etc.) Slow, but effective.

2. Check out Anders Jacobsen's excellent post on getting more readers: Optimizing MT - Get More Readers

3. Optimize your entries for Google, other search engines, etc. Again, Anders has some nice tips: Optimizing MT - Googlejuice

I'm pursuing these same tips, but can't say yet whether it's working! Takes time, ultimately...

Cheers,
Gary

Chris Pirillo just published a "BlogTraffic School Guide through Lockergnome that you might find helpful. It costs $10 to download, but Pirillo usually knows his stuff.

I haven't actually read it. I just noticed the post on his site today and remembered this forum question.

I hope you find some answers.

I'm trying to get the word out about my site, reelidentities.org, while simultaneously trying to get the word out about the festival it's for. I do a search for "gay film festival bbs" or "gay film festival forums" and I found quite a few established communities. I lurked in their forums for a few days, so I could get a feel for the people, then posted a few brief messages introducing myself as the director of competitive division of the festival... I made sure to have my link and site info in my signature. After a few days I posted a brief formal announcment of the site, and of the festival itself. Seemed to help a lot after doing it to several boards and newsgroups.

If there's already a scene for your topic, then exploit, ummmmm, use, let it know about your site. smile.gif

Yea I saw that too. Seemed to be sort of a ripoff. $10 for a PDF file full of information you can glean with a few minutes searching google.
