Full Version: Private Entry

It's a good idea to create an individual blog for private diary , besides the publish accessable blog.
However, here are some questions I'm confused:
1. Should I put the private blog (or any other new blog) in a directory NOT same as the blog (the first blog, if I have just two blog) has been created?
i.e. If my first blog is located in "/public_html/" MUST the another blog NOT located in "/public_html/" ?
2. If the private blog locates in different directory of the public blog, people dont see my private diary anyway. But how if I want some of the entries could be seen by the public? Should I copy & paste the entries from the private blog to the publish blog manually? It's so annoying!

Combation of private and public accessable entries on one blog is what some people like me want to have. SO, pls add a feature that MT has the ability of making private entries.

However, it is hard to do so as the html pages generated by MT are NOT generated by request (i.e. not generated when viewed). I assume that is the ture even though I have no experience on wirting program.

Anyway, If one could , pls help with the solution.
Thanks
maddy

No, you shouldn't. They will most likely overwrite each other if you do that. Also, if they are in exactly the same place, it is going to be extremely difficult (ie. impossible) to password protect one without the other.

You could put the second blog in a directory inside the directory that holds the first blog. You can then password protect that second directory, leaving the first generally accessible.

Are you saying that people who read your private diary won't be reading your general blog? If that is the case, then yes, you would need to repost your entry in the other blog. I'm not sure why you would want to do that, though. You could just post a link to the entry in the other blog.

You might like to check out the Restricted Posts hack at ScriptyGoddess. If you want to have one blog for all of your entries, public or private, you could also check out some of the links in
this thread for creating a password protected category. smile.gif

p.s. posting the same question twice is generally frowned upon. smile.gif

And Restricted access entries/password protection is already included on the Requested Features List.

however, does it has the same result/effect if I create the private blog outside the public blog (i.e the private and public directories are under the same directory "html_public" at the same level)?

The case is that I won't let any people read my private diary, excepts me. However, I want to let people read some of my diary's entries which are not really big personal. If my friends visit my page and not find nope of my little secret (i.e. not really private), i.e. the things surrounding me in my daily life, they would not be satisfy.

Yes, I'm sorry for doing so.
However, I've done some variation on the 2 questions when I post them, and I think the questions are suitable on the 2 section on this froum.
Should I just post a question on onw place and then make a link to it on the another place?

If you start a thread in one forum and at the conclusion of the thread everyone realizes that what you want can't be done, then posting to Request a Feature and saying "hey, can you add such and such?" with a link to the original thread for background is fine.

In this case, you posted the same thing in two forums without waiting for an answer on the first post. That's what Maddy is talking about.

Also, the purpose of the Requested Features List is for everyone to know what things have already been asked for, so as to avoid multiple posts for repeated requests. It offers links to existing topics so you can add a "me too" to those topics, rather than starting new ones.
