First, the all-important disclaimer. I'm not affiliated with Google in any way whatsoever other than the fact that I'm dyin' to work there someday :-D

With that said, check out the new Google Adsense program, and also feel free to read my recent entry about it.

In a nutshell, AdSense is a new service from Google that lets Web publishers insert Google AdWords text ads on their site and get paid for click-thrus. And from only two clickthroughs, I've already made 92 cents... that's pretty impressive, IMHO!

From my understanding, any Web site with substantive content is eligible, including blogs.

I don't intend to make a mint off of these ads, and frankly, except for the most highly-trafficked blogs, I don't think others should hope to retire early off AdSense revenues, either. But so far, I find the ads to be rather unobtrusive and, well, kinda neat, and I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.

Actually, there are many different issues at play here, some of which I did bring up in a (much) earlier thread about blogs advertising and "selling out."

- Ads in blogs
- Text ads vs. other ads in blogs
- Google vs. other advertising providers

Anyway, I do humbly encourage you to check out the ads in context of my blog, and I look forward to seeing your replies smile.gif

Regards,
Adam

P.S. -- It seems that this might be a neat program for TypePad, allowing users of that service to opt-in to AdSense, and perhaps sharing profits with Ben and Mena (and maybe even reducing the monthly TP charges). Oh, and heck, maybe Ben and Mena should throw up AdSense ads on this forum and their site overall? Assuming blog or HTML or similarly-related ads were shown, it could be interesting rather than annoying, and anything that helps Ben and Mena make a bit of extra cash is a good thing, IMHO smile.gif

Hmm... I just re-read some of the terms of the AdSense program and it notes: "No personal pages."

Bummer.

Which means that it's, perhaps, a crap-shoot whether they'll approve this blog or that blog.

My (overall) site got approved quickly, and heck, it's basically a darn large personal-type site.

So who knows? I say, give it a try, and the worst they can say is no. Signup is extremely quick, and if/once you're approved, you just have to insert a rather small snippet of javascript into your site.

Eh, I dunno. I'm not really too big on ads on my blog, maybe because I'm a control freak, and maybe because I feel like my sidebar is already too crowded. If I like something enough to promote it, I'm probably going to do it for free; I might consider a paid endorsement, but only if I truly believed in the product or service.

I'd really have to make a lot more than 92 cents for two clicks to even consider the potential risk of turning off visitors in exchange for it. Maybe the proliferation of popups and ads everywhere on the net has affected my thoughts on this, because they annoy me so much.

But that's just my personal opinion on the matter; to each his own. smile.gif
