How does one know if Mr. Hack visited?

I last updated my MT blog (at another website that I won't identify for the time being) at about 10:00 a.m. local time. At 2:30 p.m. local time it was gone. Not only that, but the CGI-BIN directory was cleaned out. I followed the concept of "static files in a separate directory." That directory's gone. My MySQL database. Gone.

Oh come on. Be realistic. Of COURSE I didn't back up. Weep weep weep.

Does this sound like a visit from an unwanted friend? Or did I push the Secret Red Button and accidentally nuke everything?

Have you contacted your host about this?
PasadenaTrails
Yep. Told them about it. They said they don't know what happened, either.

I'd think it was me that did something bad, except that the MySQL database evaporated. And that's hard to do unintentionally, at least on the control panel I have at my host. (Cpanel).

I'm very sad. Fortunately I found a bit of remaindered backup on my local hard disk but it still a lot of work to bring it back. Heavy sigh. So I've only lost a few days of work.

Whine whine whine. Move on, Phil.

As an update to anyone that cares, the webhosting company restored my site from a backup tape.

Then 4 days later it was gone again.

They have had 3 MT installations on their servers hacked, and are therefore banning MT. I have to find a new webhost that is MT-friendly, and (much more importantly) I have to find out why MT was (in their opinion) the source of insecurity.

Blogomania - the most MT-friendly host around.
