Hi I'm deleting posts in MT that have previoulsy been categorised in Archives.
They are deleting from the home page, and the correct MTCategoryCount figures are showing on the front page, but the Archives remain unchnaged and still show valid links to teh deleted posts.
I have rebuilt a number of times - still no true deletion.
Anyone encountered this?

what have you rebuild?
- all files
- indexes only
- category archives
?
seems you just have rebuilded the indexes

Can you give us a specific example of a post that has been deleted, and show us where it is still appearing in the archives?

Sure :
Take a look at the main index of my site
here- on the right is a category count only displaying one category. All other categories have had their (mostly test) entries deleted.
Then click on the
AV Team button on the top Nav Bar. All (deleted) AV Team-Category posts are still accessible from the right nav bar (recent entries), Displayed on the page (Entries lastn=1) and listed below. Strangely enough, they're also still added by the MTCategoryCount "All AV Team Entries (6)".
I appreciate your help.

All entries in the AV Team category have been deleted, right?
Try posting a new entry to that category, and see if the page rebuilds to show only the new entry.

OK that works - that was unnecessarily confusing. Maybe I should stop flappin' about and actually start a-bloggin'.

By deleting those entries, MT no longer had a reason to rebuild the page - because there were no longer any entries assigned to the category.
If you want to still have the page appear until you're ready to post entries to it (so the link won't be broken), save the test entry you just did as "DRAFT". That should rebuild the category page with no entries in it. Then you can delete the test entry.
Note also that you will need to delete the individual archive files from your server for these entries you've deleted - MT will not delete them for you, which is why those links still work.
