The end tag that is showing up in your source means that the Macro plugin is probably not installed correctly. So you might double check that part first.

Judging by your last message, I suspect a typo is more likely somewhere, especially since the smiley actually does show up at all. If you'd like to share some of your template code, as cathy suggested, I'm sure we could get it straightened out.

Well, those are some darn fine looking smilies, I'll say that. I especially like the last one.
Anyway, I, for one, am just not sure what you are actually trying to do. Are you trying to make clickable smilies in your entry_edit page? So you can click them to be included in your posts?
Or can you leave a link to the exact tutorials you used?
Oh, and if you are trying to put in a "smiley bar" maybe this recent smiley bar post a few entries down would be helpful.

What happens if you add
CODE
<$MTInclude module="smilies"$>
at the top of your index template?

btw this is besides the point but in your weblog config I think your paths to your blog are set wrong because your stylesheet isn't loading and in your source it shows the url without mt in it so just edit your site path to include the mt/ at the end !

Ok are you sure you're creating a template module right at the bottom of the page cos in the template module there is no field for output file (or do you mean link this file to a template) You might be creating an index/archiving template by mistake !
