I'm trying to build a custom, time-based archive template. I want it to behave similarily to the monthly archive page, however I just want it to go back for x amount of days.

Could someone lend me some advice on how I might go about this?

The DateTags plugin might work for you, and maybe use the MTDateLoop tag with the start_adjust attribute.
