I've used my blog with no problem for about a month or two. However, today I went to upload a small image and text and although it saved it (and further attempts), it wouldn't rebuild the pages (so they don't show up on the index page).

I've tried all day. It goes to rebuild all files but takes AGES and *eventually( I get an error message saying it's 'failed to load the page'. Just that...

Any ideas? sad.gif

I'm having a similar problem. my rebuild function won't follow through - it just hangs there, saying it's still rebuilding, and never actually finishes. I only have this problem on my home computer which is on dial-up, so I think that might be part of the problem, but at any rate it didn't used to do this and having dialup shouldn't stop me from using MT.

(no, that wasn't a solution to the previous problem, just another person looking for help.)

Some people have mentioned one of the Norton tools and pop-up blocking causing similar problems.

I'm helping the topicstarter to fix this problem, and I'm having the same problem on a really really fast connection at work (155mbit if I remeber correctly). So I guess the connection speed is not the problem.

I wonder if there's any filter type software that the host could have installed on their server that would cause this kind of problem? If a client side firewall can cause this, why not a server side one?

proof of concept to what imabug observed ...

i had a problem rebuilding mt pages [v 2.65]. i disabled norton internet security and rebuildind proceeded immediately.

hope this little tidbit helps others ...

I'm having this problem on a Mac, with no Norton software installed... Could there be a problem if the server that my files are on (i.e., my host) have Norton installed?
peripheralpip
My server didn't have any Norton installed. I'm using a Mac, I don't know if that makes a difference.

Anyways, I fixed the problem by deleting the blog content and images off my server. It then rebuilt fine but wouldn't rebuild after adding a new entries. So I deleted the whole of the contents within MT itself and re-entered all the entries again...

It was tedious and I didn't re-enter dated entries. So, I started with about 40 and now have about 15. It's working fine now though I admit to feeling nervous if it happens again or what will happen when it hits 40 again.

There is a definite problem with rebuilding and Norton Internet Security (NIS).

I have had the same problem with the rebuild phase just hanging.

I am running NIS on a PC, on dial-up.

If I disable NIS the rebuild happens without a problem.

I have tried other fixes, such as resetting firewall rules, but that doesn't seem to work, the only thing that I have found that definately does is temporarily disabling NIS, clicking on rebuild, and then enabling NIS as soon as the rebuild finishes. Not ideal I know, but it works.

Have emailed symantec about the problem and will post response if I get one.

I never made it up to 40 entries this time (see earlier post). Just 31 and am experiencing the same problems as before.

Won't rebuild after adding a new entry. I don't have NIS. Am at a complete loss...

Anyone have ANY ideas?

Thanks! huh.gif

Have a look in your webserver error logs. Perhaps the CGI scripts are encountering problems.

what database are you using?

You're dealing with a complete idiot here, I'm afraid, imabug.

I just looked at the Webserver logs and there were none from today (does that make sense?)

Think database is SQL or something...

Additional information to problem...

Have contacted server - it is MySQL database - and there are no problems there end I'm assured.

Have narrowed the rebuild problem down a little bit.

Can't add one entry to the blog (consisting of just 32 entries). Will save new entry but won't rebuild it.

If I delete one (random) entry, I can add one more entry. It will save and rebuild.

So, it seems to be that there is a limit to the number of entries I can add somehow... And that limit is 32. When I encountered the same problem a few months ago, the limit was about 40. I had to delete a whole bunch of entries to get it to add again and was worried what would happen when it would get to 40... (but as you can see it didn't get beyond 32).

This is the error message that is returned when a rebuild fails after adding a new entry:

The attempt to load 'Accessing URL:http://pt.underwateramsterdam.com/mt/mt.cgi?mode=rebuild&blog_id=2&type=entry_146&next=0&offset=&limit=&total_entries=&15_bm=&entry_id=14

BTW, a Mac user so sometimes spaces show up as "?".

It seems like there is some sort of limiter to the number of entries (or total size etc.) kicking in somewhere.

Has anyone any ideas? Please help. I love MT and want to continue using it but it's really frustrating not being able to add any entries to the blog. I run a non-profit website on Amsterdam (Netherlands) which I work on for free supplying the public with the best events coming up... So would really appreciate any help...
