I tried starting a new blog, the index for which I'd like to be a new URL. The original URL is www.esl-blog.com/ and MT is stored in cgi-bin/mt/

I tried saving the new blog to travel-plan-idea.com/cgi-bin/mt/ but I received a permission denied error. Then I tried saving it to esl-blog.com/cgi-bin/mt/ (just like the original blog) but permission was denied again:

An error occurred:

Writing to '/home/jtrotta/esl-blog.com/cgi-bin/mt/index.html.new' failed: Opening local file '/home/jtrotta/esl-blog.com/cgi-bin/mt/index.html.new' failed: Permission denied

your blog shouldn't be going into your cgi-bin directory.

it should be going into wherever your html files are normally kept.

what are your local site and archive paths and URLs set to?

It's funny. When I clicked on create new blog, the paths looked like this: /home/jtrotta/esl-blog.com/cgi-bin/mt so I just changed esl-blog to travel-plan-idea which didn't work. Now I've got things sorted out (I think): /home/jtrotta/travel-plan-idea.com/public_html seems to be working.

Thanks!
