i would like to know how to put the dates of the original article next to each entry like:

It's the stupid, stupid :: January 5 2004
16 questions for Dean :: January 5 2004
Here is an idea :: January 4 2004

i tried using several < MT > tags that looked right but all attempts ended in misery, please help

What you want is described in the date tags section of the manual.

What you would do is find the portion of your archive template that says



and add after it



If you still need help please post the portion between your body tags of your archives template so that the code can be made more explicit to what you want. =)
