I got an error that prompted me to look at my activity log for the first time. I found there a record of a search for porn, I assure you not made by me. How did it get there? Is there something I should do to stop such behavior?

Edit: I also see a SUCCESSFUL login by someone other than myself. Yikes!

I would change your MT login password right away.

There's not really much you can do about what people try to search for in your blog, other than remove the Search field. Now, whether they find what they're looking for, that is entirely up to you.

Never hurts to change your password, but also, was the successful login by someone named Melody? If so, that was your first login before you established your password. Second, anyone can search for any string on your site if you have a "search this site" area, and it will get logged.
