I just want to thank all of the volunteers who put their time and effort into answering questions and helping us out. Actually, I didn't need to actually ask a question, because there was a post on every single problem that I ran across. I hope that some day, I shall be able to contribute the bits of knowledge that I might have gleaned from trial and error. In the mean time, I just keep hitting the search button and the answers appear.

Thank you, not_applicable, for being the boss of that search button

That's great! And I'm glad the forums have been helpful for you.

Magic, ain't it?
This forum is an amazing and deep resource...if tapped through the search function. Appreciate your exercising the search button!

yes, thank you all, those who ask and those who answer, because you have helped me with everything I have wondered about movable type. I love that search-thing, too

Hey this is what goes on in most forums dedicated to software such as phpBB, IPB, right here, and many more forums.
And the mods keep telling the users to search first. If I think the problem or question sounds too common I ussually do a quick search to find some answers.

I can't speak about the forums for phpBB and Invision since I haven't spent as much time there, but I'm sure the situation is similar to here. There are almost 187,000 posts on this forum. Most questions have been asked at least 2 or 3 times.
We, well I at least, understand that sometimes it is harder to search for some questions than others and that the advanced options can be confusing when you are in a hurry. That's why usually even if it is a repeat question, many of us either answer it again or find the other thread that answered it and link to it.
If it is an extremely common question (such as "How do I always show a certain number of entries on the main page?") then we get frustrated because that one is covered in the manual AND it has been asked and answered here many times over.
Repeatedly posting common questions also litters the new posts page. That makes it hard for us to pick out new questions from the other repeats without going to each thread individually, which becomes very time consuming.

You're right some questions can have so many keywords that are all keywords in the question that searching may lead to a high volume of results which mostly are unrelated or too narrowed down that there are no results.
Like the question I asked about the Powered By note earlier.

Where are the staff, though?
I'm only knew and only followed a small number of threads, but I find the apparent complete lack of staff input completely disconcerting. Do staff actually still post in these forums? If so, I'm curious why I've not seen them posting in the threads I've been reading, even though important matters have been raised.
