Full Version: Can I link blog entries to individual files?

Hi,

I love to death how I can link templates to individual files. I find it much more convenient to edit them with an external HTML editor and automatically upload them.

I was wondering, is it possible to do that with blog entries as well? I would really like to be able to do all writing and editing locally on a decent editor.

Thanks!

If you want to do your writing and editing in an environment that offers more flexibility and options than MT's posting interface, you might want to check out one of the desktop clients from this list (scroll down to Desktop Client Tools).

Just be aware that those have a major (in my opinion) limitation of not pinging external sources. Something about the API - that is the one reason why I continue to use the MT admin for posting entries.

LisaJill, I'm pretty new to this still. What exactly does it mean "not pinging external sources" in this context?

Is this what you're referring to?

I just realized, I could solve this problem easily if I could use template tags inside an entry. All I would have to do is make the entry body be <$MTInclude file="docs/file_0023.html"$>

Then I could edit that file directly on my favorite editor, upload it when it's ready, and do a rebuild.

Unfortunately, template tags don't work inside blog entries. Is there an plugin or hack to do that? All I need is the include functionality. I did a search in the MTPlugin Directory but it didn't come up with anything.

Thanks.

MTProcessTags

Depending on your setup & needs, PHP might be the easier / better solution, though.

Excellent! Thanks ingmar. Now my entry body looks like this: <$MTInclude file="/docs/filename.html"$>

And I edit that file separately in any way I want. Perfect! :-)

I'm not sure if they handle trackback, I never foun a way to trackback from them - I meant things like pinging weblogs.com and blo.gs and any others that you might have added (i have like 8 =) )

but you found another way, that's a pretty cool solution. =)

I'm using MT-Client, a friend's project. The latest version, which I'm beta testing, allows both manually entered trackbacks and trackback autodiscovery. I'm not sure if it sends notification pings though.
