I installed the latest version of MT. I have not added any mods; it's just the stock code. The checkbox in the blog config is checked. The 'send email notification' relating to new comments does not work.

Doesn't SMTP require a username and password? If so, how do I enter that information?

Did you configure MT to use SMTP instead of Sendmail? (The latter is the default.)

And you put your email address in the author profile?

The 'SendMailPath' is commented out.

I have these lines uncommented:

MailTransfer smtp
SMTPServer server.com

(I don't suppose someone could use this information maliciously, but, should I not allow people to know my smtp server? Again, doesn't someone need a password to use it?)

I go to add a blog entry, publish it, rebuild the site, and no email is received at either of the two addresses I added to the 'notifications' list. I guess I didn't specify between 'comments' notifications and 'new post' notifications. Neither is working tho.

It's not automatic on send. You have to go back and edit it, scroll all the way down and choose the notify options.

So looks like you might need to comment out the SMTP lines in mt.cfg and let it try the default of sendmail?
