Full Version: Strange archive-bug

I've been blogging for over 4,5 years. The last few years have been MT.

For some strange reason, my archive page lists only the current month. The template for the archive page was not changed. huh.gif

After searching the forum I guess it *could* have something to do with that 00:00:00 bug, but removing the only recent post that was "put forward in time" and rebuilding the site does not solve it.

It still lists only one month and I can't figure out what's wrong. It looks like a real bug.
maddy
Is this an Index Template? What code are you using to display your list? smile.gif
l-rs
It's the regular "Master Archive Index".

The piece of code i use to generate the page:

CODE
<MTArchiveList archive_type="Monthly">
<li><font face="Tahoma, Arial, System" color="#000000" size="2"><a href="<$MTArchiveLink$>"><$MTArchiveTitle$></a> (<$MTArchiveCount$>)</font>
<p>
</MTArchiveList>

That should do the trick, shouldn't it?
maddy
Are all of your entries still visible inside MT? If you change the archive_type to one of the other options, is the listing complete? huh.gif

Is there any difference if you rebuild just that template, rather than your entire site? Is the page being fully rebuilt? Can we have a link to the page in question? smile.gif

What kind of times/dates are your entries posted at?

Only last week I'd edited an entry to a specific date and time (midnight april first) but removing that one, including all comments, did not solve it.

I've rebuilt using the "Weekly" setting, but that didn't work either. mellow.gif

The archive page is located at: http://l-rs.org/archief.html

It should list 4,5 years worth of stuff. wink.gif
maddy
Well, that seems to be listing Daily Archive pages (yes, just for April), which is not what the code you posted above shows - that code above is for a Monthly listing... huh.gif

And if that is an Index Template (which the Master Archive Index is), rebuilding Weekly Archives would have no effect on it - you would instead have to rebuild that template alone (from within the screen to edit that template), or Indexes Only (or the entire blog).

Can you please confirm what code you have in the template that builds the page you're having problems with? smile.gif

My dedicated Movable Type technician (yes, I have one biggrin.gif ) was testing and had switched it to "Daily".

Now it is back to Monthly.

Weird, my entire march archive is empty:

While both february and april are there:

What database type are you using? If you view the individual entries inside the MT interface, are they still there?

And can you get an export of your entries?
l-rs
I'm using the standard version of MT, no MySQL or anything.

The entries are still there, as far as I can tell. Thank goodness...

My MT Technician ( biggrin.gif ) has been looking into this as well and he found that an export of entries quits at march 31st, even though there are entries for april.

It seems that the april 1st entry (since deleted) has broken the archive.

Just to see if it would work, I added a new entry for april 1st (midnight exactly) and rebuilt. No luck. Then changed the time for that entry and rebuilt yet again. No change. I then deleted the entry and rebuilt. No result.

With over 2050 entries, rebuilding again and again takes forever.

We're now contemplating starting from scratch with a new blog, importing the entries until march 31st and manually adding the april entries... but that is no guarantee either, since at this time it's unclear what is causing the problem in the first place.

I wonder... could downgrading help?
l-rs
No one?

I have been looking for alternative publishing systems but I really can't stomach having to ditch MT without knowing what caused the problem... huh.gif

If I had to guess, I'd say that your database is getting wonky, hence the imcomplete exports. I think what I would do is set up a New Index Template with the template contained in this thread, adapting it with my idea for incremental exports in this thread? You would just need to rebuild the template (adjusting the numbers each time) and save a copy of the file until you'd managed to copy all of your entries.

And if you can, after rescuing as many of your entries as possible, consider reinstalling/upgrading with mySQL database support, which is considerably more stable, especially for larger sites like your own. smile.gif

Good luck.
