Full Version: Comment Submission Error

mrAshley
I'm posting a comment on my own blog. It's a longish comment, but nothing really very special.

I haven't posted in many minutes.

I have just recently upgraded to version 2.661 (a move I hope to not regret.)

When I try to post my comment I get this:

Comment Submission Error
Your comment submission failed for the following reasons:

In an effort to curb malicious comment posting by abusive users, I've enabled a feature that requires a weblog commenter to wait a short amount of time before being able to post again. Please try to post your comment again in a short while. Thanks for your patience.

Please correct the error in the form below, then press Post to post your comment.

Okay, so fine, I wait a long time.. I begin to wonder if this wouldn't let me post within 15 minutes, which doesn't make a lot of sense. I look up online, and find that the default is about 20 seconds. Easily 20 seconds has passed, I haven't altered the default config file.

The only thing I can think is that there is a bug, or the fact that I'm trying to post behind a NAT is a problem ( can't think of a single reason, other than if someone else behind the NAT was also doing the same -- no one is)

Thanks! smile.gif

samwise, are the multiple blogs in different time zones? If so, you might want to look at Throttling Easterners to see if your problem matches what Phil is describing.

mrAshley, does this happen to help you any? huh.gif

Why yes, I believe that did the trick for me too. I had posted to a blog in The Netherlands.

That was easy to follow, thanks for your help! biggrin.gif

Glad that worked for you too biggrin.gif

Where exactly would I need to insert those codes? And do I do that for EACH blog? Thanks

Phil's article explains which MT file (or MT Blacklist file) needs to be edited.

One edit covers all blogs.

I think I am having a related problem. Here is the scenario: I posted a comment on my blog, noted the time stamp on the comment was wrong. Figured the place where my server is had kicked into DST or something, and went in and set back my TimeZone an hour. Went to post another another comment to test it out. Got the error relating to throttling.

I had ThrottleSeconds set at 40 seconds, changed it to 0. And I am still, 15 minutes later, still unable to comment. huh.gif

I've employed Phil's hack, but to no avail. sad.gif

Righto, taking another clue from Phil in this thread, I'm about to delve into the mySQL tables and fiddle with some timestamps. wink.gif

EDIT: Yep, put back the time on comment_created_on and comment_modified_on and I'm back in business. smile.gif

In whichever file is doing your actual throttling ({MTdir}/lib/MT/App/Comments.pm or {MTdir}/extlib/jayallen/MTBlPost.pm if you are using MT-Blacklist 1.63), look for two lines:

On your server in your MT directory ({MTdir}).
