Full Version: comments spam-proof?

Hi... pretty nooby question, but nevertheless just want to check because I don't want to be responsible for my commenters getting spam emails from the automatic trawlers around.

In the commenting system does the fact that a "mailto:" link comes up when a commenter enters their email present such a risk?

I may not be understanding this correctly but if the trawlers just follow links then its conceivable that they could follow my "comments(5)" link and then get the email address from that?

You can choose whether or not a commenter's link displays the name, URL (if entered), or email address (if entered). There are also ways to display each of these items separately, if you want.

Look in the manual about the various options available for the MTAuthor tag.

You're correct in that spiders and spambots can follow your popup comments link and get commenters' email addresses - unless you configure your blog templates to not display that information. In which case, no worries biggrin.gif

I don't see anything in the manual about this tag. Can you point me in the right direction?

I think Lesli probably meant MTCommentAuthor, MTCommentAuthorLink, and so on. wink.gif
