I didn't really know much about RSS, RDF, XML, etc. until yesterday.

I read up about it at: http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2002/12/18/dive-into-xml.html

See also What Does Syndicate This Site Mean?. The default Movable Type set up generates rdf RSS files, so you don't have to do much at all to allow for syndication of your MT content.

does anyone have any tips about formatting the xml file that mt creates? when i view my feed (with the default formatting) in feedreader, it has a 'creator' heading on the page; i would like to take this line out.

also, some sites like the bbc and yahoo! have an image that is at the top of all their excerpts; is there a place i can add one of these in my xml templates? thanks.

The XML file is the RSS 2.0 Index (index.xml) in Templates. I haven't done much XML work so I can't help you with that but I'm assuming you'll want to remove this line to take out the 'creator' heading:

CODE
<dc:creator><MTEntries lastn="1"><$MTEntryAuthorEmail$></MTEntries></dc:creator>
