Hi folks,
I finally got a separate site (and url obviously) for my MT 2.6x blog. Now, I'd like to move the files from my corporate site (where it currently lives) over to the new one. Can anyone run me through the steps as they relate to MT?
I assume at some point I'm going to have to input new variables into the conifguration page, but I've got a feeling that there are many steps before that.
Right now, I'm simply copying the whole site to a local disk in preparation for cleaning it up (removing the corporate stuff, an old attempt at a bulletin board, etc.) and uploading it to the new one.
I'm pretty sure that the old site was running under Linux. It didn't support PHP. I understand that the new one runs under Windows. It supports mysql and PHP. I' don't remember what I was using for a data base on the old site. I assume I can run checksomethingorother and find out.
I'm also wondering whether I should upgrade to MT3 as part of the process. My only hesitation is the instinct to make sure it works at the different url before I upgrade. I also depend on mt-blacklist which hasn't as yet released a version for MT3.
Many many thanks in advance,
EDB

See
Moving your MT blogs to a new server or web host for some ideas.
You may want to ask around as well for guidance regarding hosting MT on a Windows box. I've heard there are issues.
Fabulous! Truly helpful. So many thanks.
Do you think I should have asked my host for another linux box instead?

I don't really know. I've only heard of people having problems installing MT on Windows. You might want to post another question here in the forums regarding that.

Hmmm... In haste I copied all my files from one host to another and then decided (when I couldn't log into my blog) to look at how a transfer should be made.
So, I'd simply love to know one thing...
- If I have already just copied all my data from one server to another, and no longer have access to the old server, is there any way I can import my existing blog data into a new install?
I get the impression there is not. I am not using mySQL... just the default Berkeley DB (or whatever it's called ?)
Running 2.66
Many thanks for any help offered...
Jonathan
