I am looking to email a weekly notification that is all the blog entries for that week, like the adrants email blog. it basically mirrors the first page of the blog, minus the right bar. I tried to use notifier and I can't get my hosting company to add storable.
so my questions are:

1. can I accomplish this?
2. can I use something other than notifier? if so, what?
3. can I sneak storable onto my hosts server?

I'm really in a bind here. and i know little or nothing about perl.
thanks.

1. Don't know. smile.gif

2. Don't know. smile.gif

3. No. Storable must be compiled into your Perl installation, so the only way (I know) to get it is to have your host do it for you, as most hosts don't allow users to recompile Perl.

Notifier won't actually send email notifications weekly, either. It is a feature I've considered adding, and I may even end up doing another feature ransom for it, as I've had it requested a few times. Before I do, I need to look at it and see what it will take to add the function. One other consideration is that even if Notifier did have this function, it wouldn't work for you as it requires the Storable Perl module.

I've also considered adding other storage methods to Notifier. The mechanism is there. And people are welcome to write them themselves. smile.gif But it's a matter of finding the time to do it. Could be another feature ransom on the way.

I have a page sent out nightly using Dada Mail Pro. It's $25, but it was the only mailing list program that I could find that would send out on a schedule and pull the data from a page. I wrote a tutorial a LONG time ago on how I did it here

Bumping this thread into attention again, mainly because I am still searching for a way to dump Bloglet as my email notfication service, but there still seems to be nothing else available, third-party or MT plugin.

I've seen this used: PHPlist but haven't yet tried it myself.

In the end, for what it's worth, I realized that since Google News indexes my site as a news source, I could just direct readers to making a Google Alert for search terms which would return only new items from my site. So I went with that.

I am still searching for a way to dump Bloglet as my email notfication service.

I ended up here for that reason. I signed up with Bloglet about a month ago and I get a Bloglet email for 1 in about every 7 posts that I make.

The support form on Bloglet bounces back.

There's got to be an enterprising person out there that will create a new service - I'd be happy to pay.

For what it's worth, to those relative few for whom it's worth anything, if your weblog happens to be amongst those indexed as a news source by Google News, you can have your readers subscribe to a Google Alert, which also has the advantage of letting them choose immediate, daily, or weekly delivery.

Using an RSS feed and a feed reader might also be a good option - if the reader was willing to go that route. If nothing else, bloglines.com is a handy way to read all of your feeds without having to install software.

It's not as much of a "push" of information as sending it to their inbox, but it's close.

I have setup PHPList and intergrated it in with my mt site.. I love it....messages can be scheduled, html email customized, 98% control over the appearance and placement, and the list goes on. I looked at Bloglet but it didn't seem to fit my needs. I had Dada mail completely installed, but wasn't able to control the appearance or modify it to my liking - so I ditched it in favor of PHPlist.

btw - you may want to try Scot Hacker's MTBlogMail plugin. I have not tried it yet, but looks promising provided you have the necessary cron access and only need simple scheduled emailed updates.
