Does anyone know of a way to set up MT to automatically replace particular characters with the appropriate utf-8 (unicode) equivalent?

AListApart issue # 124 has a good explanation of what these character replacements are.  In general, they make your typography a little prettier, and, to the purist, more readable and, well, pure.  

I'm not sure if this should be posted to Feature Request or not, but I was hoping someone would have a brilliant suggestion.  Basically, I would want MT to do some quick character replacement when a blog entry is saved.
