hi there. I am using MT 3.01D. I followed your anti-spam guide of changing the name of the mt-comments.cgi, then adding the line with new name in the mt.cfg. I checked the permissions to make sure they were set to 755. (right?) Now, when I go to update my blog, I am asked to log in, when I do, it says my login is invalid.

So I tried to set everything back the way it was - I uploaded the original comment script and mt.cfg. Deleted the ones I had changed. -Still asked for login, tells me it is invalid.

Oh, and when you click the comment button on my actual weblog, it now shows the error,

An error occurred: No such entry ID '269'

Also, I tried running the mt-medic. I was able to log in fine, but when I clicked any of the options, (authors, blogs, etc.) they showed nothing. The only thing showing info was the Configuration option.

bleh. I am not good at this. Any help?
I downloaded the upgrade to 3.14, thinking that maybe if I upgraded everything would be fixed, but then decided I needed to get some help first. errrrrr, help?

I'd check that when you edited your mt.cfg file that you transferred it in ASCII mode. If it wasn't, then it will be unreadable to MT. Try starting with a fresh copy, editing to reflect your existing settings. And then upload the new file in ASCII mode.

Oh my gosh. I can't believe how simple of a mistake this was. ---It wasn't the mt.cfg file at all-or maybe a combination of the two. I started looking at all my mt files to figure how to upload in ASCII like you suggested, (I had forgotten how I did it before) when I noticed my db folder had very strange permission settings. I changed it back to 755, and pow, everything works again. Hooray! Thanks so much for helping me. I'm going to go try the comment name change again, now that I know what to look out for.
