I have a meta tag in my index and archives pages with this:

CODE
<meta name="robots" content="noindex,follow,noimageindex,noimageclick" />

More or less, the robot will not index your archive page, but it WILL follow and index the LINKS on the archive page.   Ideal solution.

If it is a search engine you need, why not try atomz http://www.atomz.com/search/trial_account.htm

I use it on my site www.richlyon.net - give it a whirl. I found it very easy to set up, but give me a shout if you want to try it and get a bit stuck.

I'm not quite sure how to go about doing this, or if this is even possible. But I'm thinking there must be a way to obtain more accurate search results in Google and other search engines that lead directly to the individual, archived post, and NOT the date. I've had more referrals point to date archives, which are incredibly long, and the user can't find the info they searched for. If search results could tag indiv posts, PERMANENTELY, I'd be so much happier.

Does anyone have tips for optimizing their results, or is it a lost cause?  ???

Cool -- I had my robots meta tag set to "ALL" before, simply 'cause that's the way I've always done it. I'll give your sample a shot... thanks!
