I plan to have multiple Movable Type installations and for that purpose I want to change the prefix of the database tables for each installation. My host provides a single database.

I would appreaciate any help in this regard.

Thanks

Hey, MT-guys! Can anybody answer? Or it's just a "feature"?

There isn't a simple way to do this (you would need to alter the application code). What are you wanting to do that requries more than a single installation (note that each license permits only one installation)?

Me, for example, want to share my hosting with other person/installation, and my provider offers only 1 DB. Just to keep it clear with tables.

And somebody may want to keep MT tables always on top, by changing prefix to "aa".

And some programms may set the same prefix for their tables, that's quite uncomfortable.

And many contemporary engines, even not so good as MT, just offer this feature by default wink.gif

And someone might want to to install a test version next to the live version to try out the newer Movable Type version before risking his life installation by blindly upgrading.

Does anyone know if this is at least possible in 4.1 now?

No it is not possible in MT 4.1. I use a small Virtual Machine running on my local system to test versions.

The virtual machine idea doesn't work, since we are several people working on different computers and all (especially two) need access to the test version to try things out.
Thanks you for the answer!

My virtual machines have their network controllers mapped to the host server network card so the test blogs can be access from any machine on the network.
