I appreciate ANYONE'S HELP ON THIS
I upgraded from 3.17 to 3.2
I did what you're NOT supposed to do, and just copy over the new 3.2 files without backing up anything. I also am still running Berkley DB.
That being said....
1. I copied the new files and set the scripit permissions properly.
2. I ran mt-upgradecheck and it says everything is fine
3. When I try to run mt-upgrade.cgi, I don't get the groovy screen like you see in the Flash Video where it's churning through your db and stuff - it just keeps asking me to log in. I try to log in with my known userid and password, and it just keeps flipping back to mt-upgrade.cgi, but the login screen for the app....it doesn't throw errors or anything. If I try to log in with a bogus user, I get an invalid login message. For me, I get NOTHING!
WHAT'S HAPPENING!?? HELP!!!

check that yr browser accept cookie.
Mine did that exact same thing and my browser does accept cookies.
I had to abandon hope of installing 3.2 because I have no idea how to fix this problem or what to do about it.
epetrick let me know what you find out.
Thanks!

I'm using MySql and FireFox, and I have the same problem. I can't log-in beyond the upgrade.cgi script. Every time I log on I come back to the login page.
I have cleared my cookies, cleared my cache. Tried IE, reset my password (which still works) etc, but nothing.
I am upgrading from 3.0D. I have also moved servers. To move servers, I exported my MySql db in phoMyAdmin, and re-imported it into the new host. All the MT files are obviously from the new MT version 3.2 with the new mt-config file etc ...
Anyway - no idea what it could be. I have had a look at the log database tables, and my logins are not logged either ...
No solution, though.

I have a solution to this problem.
I upgraded to 3.2 from 3.0D. When trying to login for the first time - to then run the automatic upgrade scripts, I kept on being returned to the login screen. Actually not returned, but could never leave it. Even after changing the password and have it sent to me, I still could not login.
Now this is the key - you have to login before you can run the upgrade scripts. But in my particular case, the password field on the mt_author table was too short for MySql 4.1 (I run off MySql4.1 now).
So what you need to do is use phpMyAdmin to go into your database, and set the password field to a length of say 128. Mine was on 40.
Regenerate your password using the Forgotten Password on the login screen, and then it should work.
Bit of a bug in the installation - bummer MT people don't read the forums, though.

You know what FINALLY worked for me? (after I gave up for a week or 2 or 3 and came back) I asked to reset my password, got it sent via email, came back to log in, then CHECKED THE "REMEMBER ME" box and it let me through - then it did the upgrade jazz and I'm fine....
HOPE THAT HELPS! Thanks everyone!

Hey, I just had the very same problem. Found myself sweating anxiously, worried that I had just messed up two years of work. Anyway, I found this thread, and I did indeed ask for a new password. Viola! The upgrade ran. All is well in www.lostbaklava.com land. It's a labor of love for family away from NYC.
A Big big thanks, folks.
Happy new year.

I'm also having a problem logging in. It started yesterday for no reason. I decided to upgrade to 3.2 and thought that would fix my problem, but it didn't. I still can't log in even with the default username/password (Melody::Nelson) on this upgrade. You all said you "reset" your password and it worked. How exactly can you "reset" it?
