I just turned on comment moderation because I'm having trouble with some rabble-rousers and trollers posting in my comments.

I do this:



Ok, so now I expect to be able to 'trust' a commenter.

I go to the comments page for my blog.

I select a particular comment, and select 'trust commenters(s)" from the pull-down.

I click "go".

The screen refreshes. And nothing happens. Nothing is added to the trusted commenters list. This commenter (me) still isn't trusted on my next try to comment.

So. Um. How do I get MT to remember a trusted commenter, if 'trust commenter' doesn't work? Will it only trust typekey validated users? I even turned off typekey to see if makes a difference, but no, it does not. "trust commenter" still does nothing.

I thought we had a better comment moderation system in 3.2.

yes, only Typekey authenticated users can be added to the "trusted" status. These people would have to post through Typekey every time to have it automatically go through. I found this out only by testing it out both with regular comments and then logging into Typekey and posting a comment that way. Once you post with Typekey you will see an icon next to the comment author name. Those users, if you select "Trust user", will be added to the "Commenters" page.

I think it would be nice if we could add whoever we wanted to this list, regardless of Typekey usage. Although, just this morning a plugin was posted to Whitelist any user you want. See Email Whitelister

This should *so* be part of mt 3.2. I'm stunned that they didn't build it in. With all the talk about an improved interface for moderation of comments, I'm not seeing better functionality, just more buttons.
