Ok folks, here is the issue
I am unable to use the mt-xmlrpc.cgi to publish entries to my weblogs from various external clients or services.
I trying to use Photon/Iphoto to publish entries into a weblog and I recieve an error that I am passing the incorrect password. I HAVE set up the API password for the user MT. Interestingly I am seeing the same problem with I try to publish a picture from flickr to my weblog.
Flickr says => "The username and password you entered were not valid."
Photon says => Bad ObjectDriver config: Connection error: Access denied for user 'xxxx'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
The same thing occurs with a local database or with a MySQL database.
Any clues?
jbstrick.

Ensure that you have set an API password in your Author profile. This API password is what you should use with external clients. To set an API password, log into MT and click your username at the top right hand corner and then at the bottom of the page you'll see the field.

I am having the same problem. I have the abi password set in MT. Is that all that needs to be done? or is there some configuration needed for the external clients? I have noticed this: In mt-config.cgi, there is a field for my mysql database password. In the previous versions this password has been in a seperate file. When I uploaded that file to my server, I got a different error than what was mentioned before. It says Invalid Login. When the mt-db-pass file is removed, I get the exact same error as mentioned above. Any help is appreciated.
As jbstrick mentioned, we both have our API password set, so that is not the issue. There is something else wrong.

Ok.
I got it to work. But quite oddly. You must put that API password into your external editing programs as the password to access your site. That was my problem. But it still didn't quite fix it for me.
My other problem was with the DBPassword field in mt-config.cgi. It was not accepting my database password. So, I uploaded the older mt-dbpass file from the previous version and it worked. It just doesn't want to accept that field in mt-config.cgi for me. If anyone knows why this happens please help. But other than that, I've got it to work.
