Full Version: Published A Post, Deleted It, Still Visible
Movable Type Community Forum > Other Product Discussion > Bugs and Odd Behavior

I created a new post and published it. A few minutes lately I unpublished it, then deleted it. It was no longer visible via the admin panel, nor on the main page of my blog.

However, whenever I create a new post, an e-mail is sent to my inbox with a permalink to that post. If I click on that permalink, I can still see the post, just as if I was clicking on any other post.

So I'm asssuming the post is still sitting in the database somewhere, maybe the database and Moveable Type got "out of synch"?? Unfortunately, another company hosts our blog and I can't directly access the database to check it out.

Any ideas what went wrong? Or how to fix this?

Thanks!! smile.gif

If you're using static publishing Movable Type creates physical files on your server. When you delete a post and rebuild files, Movable Type rebuilds all the pages but doesn't delete the entry's file from your server. You'll need to do that manually.

I do recall some plugin that may have been created or was in the process of being created that did this automatically for you. I'll try and find it. Until that time though, manually deleting is the only option

Great, thanks for that info!!

That's quite silly behavior from MT. You can never really delete a thread without manually removing the file. Even if you delete the file, people who read your blog via RSS can still see the deleted page if they grabbed your newsfeed before you deleted the post.

No wonder why everyone is switching to WordPress.

Not everybody, I've switched from WP to MP and I ensure you that I'm very happy.
Not that WP isn't a nice script, but after living with its countless bugs for over than a year, MT really looks so professional, solid and fast wink.gif

The reason Wordpress behaves as it does with deleted posts is because it is dynamically published, i.e. the pages are served straight from the database. Movable Type has had this for over a year now and with dynamic publishing, when you delete a post, you will not have to delete any pages and a 404 will appear when users try to access the permalink.
