Full Version: An Option To Save Entry But...

Sometimes I want to modify a group of old entries, but every entry save would rebuild assoiciated templates. If I can save those entries first and rebuild them all later, it would save me a lot of rebuild time.

So my suggestion is to add an option in entry editing page, to make it like:

Save Only
Save&Rebuild

What do you think?

What kind of changes are you making?

If you're changing category, date, title, etc, then you can make those changes in bulk via Power-Edit Mode, and save them all at once, rather than saving each individual entry as you go.

I mean changes in entry content or keywords.
Thank you.

I've asked about this in the past myself, and almost everybody just kind of thought I was weird for even thinking about it. I can't recall right now if anyone came up with any ideas, but I'll see about rummaging through my archives to find the thread. I think it was on a mailing list.

For what it's worth, there's nothing in MT proper that will do this for you in any especially clean way.
I suppose you could make your edits, setting the posts to Unpublished as you go, and save them. Then when you're all done, find those posts again(using the filter on the entry listing page) and use the Publish Entries itemset action(dropdown over on the right) to send them back out, but that's just ew. And you'd also have to make sure you're not using the new DeleteFilesAtRebuild config directive. All in all, too much work.

The problem with that is, changing a post from Published to Unpublished and saving it will also cause a rebuild (because it needs to be removed from anyplace it's published).

I've often wished for this feature myself. Not to mention "Save and Add Another." I think I looked into trying to implement it as a plugin but couldn't figure out a decent way to do it. Maybe I'll take another look...

With new tag features in MT3.3, I want this "save only" function so much!

I mentioned here.
Beacase I need to modify a lot of old entries to give them new keywords and tags, save entry only and rebuild them all is very useful! Otherwise it will be a forever job to do. sad.gif sad.gif

MT is sort of a static script which make mass modification horrible.
This "save only" function is much needed and I think it should be an official feature, at least a plugin.
