Full Version: Posts Do Not Show On Index.html Page

I'm having some issues with having new posts display where they should - this is the second time I've completely created a new weblog, edited the css and index files so that it looks the way I want it to, and Movabletype doesn't work. I guess I keep messing something up - and I'm not the most technical person.

Here's the prototype for the weblog created in Dreamweaver with simple css.

I know that I cannot achieve exactly the same look, but I've managed to get it close.

The problem is that when I create a new post, it doesn't show. When creating a new post, do I need to select a category for it, or just leave it blank to have it show on the main page? I have the settings set to show the "last 7 days" worth of posts, and the date is correct.

I got about this far last time, and ran into the same problems. I'm sure that it is something simple, but for the life of me I cannot figure it out.

Perhaps I should go with typepad and forget the interface...

Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Rob,

I would recommend changing the settings to show the last 7 entries unless you're sure that you'll be posting that regularly. Otherwise the main page turns up empty sometimes.

Also, by default, all entries will show up on the main page. If you put them in categories, they will also show on that categories archive page.

Could you copy your Main Index template code into a text file and put it on your server and then put a link to it here for me to review? smile.gif

Thanks Lisa,

I think that I've messed it up even more trying to fix it... If I can find the versions which were close to what I wanted - I think I've overwritten them... I'll get back to you and let you know.

This is definitely not as easy as I had hoped it would be.

Hey Rob,

It looks like you're missing the code for the MTEntries section that will generate your list of entries.

Take a peek at this template for the section you're missing (it's also in the alpha div tags):

Thanks very much Lisa,

But... (this is what happens when one knows enough to be dangerous -meaning me-), here's what it looks like now.

http://www.iconestatesuniversity.com/movabletype/

The header is "confused", the categories show below the entries -rather than on the right where I want them (at least the entries show-thanks), the typefont for the categories is not at all what I had planned... anyway, I'm beginning to think that the vision I had is a little out of my reach with MovableType...

Here's a link to the latest index file

Here's a link to the latest .css file

Any help that you can provide is appreciated.

Whoa... verrrry strange... it works now!! I waited a few minutes, went for a walk, and checked again, and everything is "normal"... not quite what I'm looking for yet -need to adjust some dotted lines, and other visual elements, but it looks much better.

Thanks again for your help!
