So, I had some problems with my database when my webhost migrated to a new system. Everything seems to be working again now, but now I can't log in to my blog! For some reason it is giving me a password error. When I try and recover the password, it just asks for "password hint"... I don't remember what it is! Is there a way to reset my username and password without losing all my entries? I have full access to all the files on my FTP so I can edit any of them or look in them if I need to. Anyone got any suggestions?

also, I have used mt-medic and it says that my blog has NO AUTHORS. How could this be possible? Have I lost my whole website? WTF is going on? Thanks in advance for any help you guys could provide.

I believe you can use MT-Medic to reset your password.

I'm not sure that MT-Medic works with 3.2. Which database are you using and what version of Movable Type?
mackwilliams
I am using 3.2. I was using berkely, but all this started when I had a problem with that database. I think it was because my hosting service was switching platforms. After my account was migrated to the new servers, I tried to us mySQL, but it didn't work either. I am really stuck. Can anyone help? I used mt-medic and it installed and worked, but it didn't list any authors on my account at all.

Could you provide a link to your mt-check.cgi?

Also, you might want to see if your host could read this article and run the commands in it:
http://www.sixapart.com/movabletype/kb/dat...rting_berk.html

And possibly:

http://mackwilliams.com/mt/mt-check.cgi

There are a couple of errors in there... What do you think?
lisa
Everything looks good there. Could you check your mt-config.cgi (or mt.cfg) and see if you have DataSource without a "#" at the beginning of the line or if it's the block with ObjectDriver DBI::mysql that don't have the "#"?
mackwilliams
I have both an mt-config.cgi and a mt.cfg

I checked them both...

In the mt-config.cgi file, DataSource does not have # at the beginning, but ObjectDriver does.
In the mt.cfg file, DataSource does not have a # at the beginning, but I can't even find the ObjectDriver line.

Any ideas? I am very eager to get my website back up and running.
lisa
Ok, so it sounds like you're using Berkeley.

The first thing I'd like to suggest is to rename one of these to mt.cfg.old: mt.cfg or mt-config.cgi.

I'd see if your host could help you with the info in this Knowledge Base article:
http://www.sixapart.com/movabletype/kb/dat...rting_berk.html

to see if that helps at all. If not, I would suggest that you try converting to MySQL to see if it can recover your authors.

So, today, I got this response from my webhost... Looks like they fixed the problem... kind of.

QUOTE
There was problem with the DB file, I have upgraded the DB files to newer version which is being used in our server. Currently you can install movable types without any issue.
Thank you again for your patience, and please let us know if we may assist you further in any way.

So, now I can get into mt and edit my blog and stuff, which is great... BUT... I still can't access my old templates and entries. Is there a way to re-associate my user name with my previous content from before all this crap happened?
lisa
You could see if the files are in the same directory and then check your mt-config.cgi or mt.cfg to make sure that's the directory that Movable Type thinks the files are in.
