I just spent the past few hours manually editing the categories of 342 entries because the batch editor is so limited. I could edit the category with it but not assign multiple categories (of which all 342 entries had at least one additional category) and it isn't a very good batch editor at all. When I think of batch editing I normally think of applying a single action to a number of things but MT's batch editor doesn't do this. It is more of a multiple entry quick editor.
To enhance it we first need better filtering options. We need to be able to combine multiple layers of filters and filter by many more variables. One useful option would be to be able to filter posts by the date. So you might end up with filters like "Show 'only' entries where 'category' is 'x' 'and' 'status' is 'published' 'and' 'author' is 'y' 'and' 'published date' year is '2005', month is 'April', and day is 'All'." Then once you have your entries filtered properly you need to be able to adjust much more than just the Status, Title, Author, Category, and Date. And most importantly it should be a true batch edit. You wouldn't want to edit things that are unique to each post like the Entry Date or Base Name but you would want to be able to edit stuff like Tags, Category, Multiple Categories, Published Status, etc.

I agree. Batch editing needs to be improved. Especially for categories and tags. I'm hoping to find a plugin out there that might accomplish that. I found this 2 and a half year old thread while searching for one.
