Full Version: Photo Blog Preferred Structure?

Quick and easy question with regards to the structure of photoblogs content.

The question is: "Is there an accepted standard, or preferred way of organizing a PHOTO blog content in the different fields available? (Title, Primary Category, Entry Body, Extended Entry, Excerpt, and Keywords)".

For example, let's assume that I will be uploading and posting image "0140.jpg" to my PHOTO blog (with associated comments, title, etc.). Notwithstanding the fact that I could technically put this information in *any* of the fields, some of my options are: 0140, 0140.jpg, and even <IMG SCR="0140.jpg">.

0140 is a neat and clean option. However, should I ever want to post a flash (.swf) file in the future, I could not do so since the template would contain the extension and would not allow me to add the code required to load the swf file. The simple option is not flexible while the flexible option requires repetitive coding (which means manually editing all the entries if a change was to be made).

I totally understand that I can make it work one way or another. My question really resides around whether or not there is a certain "standard" or preferred way of structuring entries for a photoblog.

Feel free to share examples of your entries for illustration purposes.

I hope I made some sense -- if I didn't, I'd be more than happy to provide clarifications.

Thanks in advance,

JR

i've written a photoblog tutorial that uses the filename inside the body.

I *knew* I would've remembered MovableTyper if I'd seen it before. I didn't realise you'd started a new blog, one on MT! Very cool, I've added it to my list of trusty resources. Quite a few of the ones I keep handy haven't been updated in donkey's years. Thanks for this. =)

Let me be more precise with my question.

There are different fields for each entry. Can folks share with us the EXACT content they put in each field? I'm not really interested in the template at this time, just the field content.

As I mention, say you are uploading a new image. You have plenty of options to do so. Do you just put the filename without an extension (because the extension is in the template) or do you put the filename with the extension? Or do you put the filename, the extension, and all of the IMG SRC code? If you do the latest, it's very flexible should you wish to, say, put a flash file as an entry in the future. The other two alternatives would not allow you to do this since the required code would need to be in the template.

Please share an entry.

Better File Uploader plugin may help as it realllly automates galleries. The rest is a mtter of layout and choice. See also Dan's gallery templates which use php to automate including the file and thumbs in various locations.

The php code removes file endings in the fields and adds it back in the templates, so it becomes infinitely configurable. Add the RightFields plugin and you can take over the world.

While this may not seem a direct answer, looking at it may be...

To answer your question:

Title: I use this for a plain text title of the photo, short and to the point
Primary Category: I use this to place a photo into an "album"
Entry Body: The image file name (eg. IMG_1234.jpg)
Extended Entry: Plain text describing the photo, in paragraph format
Excerpt: I used to use this to color my layout per photo, so if the overall photo was red, i'd put FF0000 inside here and then use the Excerpt to call the color within my layout. If it was blank it'd default to a predefined color.
Keywords: I don't use this since it's better to use Entry Tags
