Dear Movable Type,

Currently I am using MT 3.2 which works great. Now I am about to make a blog for one of my clients using MT 3.3.

The problem I have is the MT 3.3 PDF user manual. Compared to the MT 3.2 user manual at http://www.sixapart.com/movabletype/docs/3.2/ it's really, really bad. The user manual for MT 3.3 is not only harder to use because of it's PDF format but the way it's structured makes it really hard to work with.

In the online version for MT 3.2 you for example have the tags used in the code explained with every section. Not so in the PDF user manual for MT 3.3.

Please Movable Type, don't be mad about some criticism, take it as a suggestion that will make many, many of your users happy for the next version and the next user manual!

Greetings,
Martin Fuchs

Well I know that, but if you compare it to the MT 3.2 user manual at http://www.sixapart.com/movabletype/docs/3.2/ this is quite different and nothing to compare.

Okay, I'm confused.
What exactly is it you're complaining about? The 3.3 manual has more information in it than the one for 3.2. The organization was redone a bit, but it's all there. And if you look closely, it's clear that what they did was make a copy of the 3.2 manual and update it, because there are places where features/attributes new to 3.3 were not added in. Vague comments that the documentation sucks isn't going to get anything fixed for you. Every page in there has a comment link; use it. There are several known issues with the documentation, but if you want to add to that, you'll need to be specific.

If you're under the impression that the PDF manuals have the same purpose as the on-line docs, you're mistaken. Which is not at all to say I understand why the install and admin guides were made PDFs without an HTML version.

Is it that you want a PDF version of the tag reference, or an on-line version of the PDF manuals? The admin manual is here, though it hasn't been much publicized; that came about due to discussion on the ProNet list(because someone was specific). The same hasn't been done with the installation guide, that I'm aware of.

If you say that the new User Manual has even more information in it you might be able to point me to the right direction where I can find an explanation on how to set up Email Notification in MT 3.3.
I couldn't find that anywhere. That's one example on where I get stuck with the new documentation.

What *kind* of email notification are you referring to? Are you wanting to send updates to subscribers for your entries, or are you wanting to receive notifications of new comments, TrackBacks? Or something different?

Not that these things have changed at all since the last version (so the old manual is still relevant), but if you can indicate what you're looking for, that'd be helpful.

I want to set up a way to send notifications to subscribers when a new entry is posted. Using a form on the blog and sending updates via the admin interface. I can't find any information on that in the user manual. Am I blind?

Thanks,
Martin
